Aerospace: Shimmy vibration analysis of a nose-landing gear using ADAMS/Aircraft

OBJECTIVE

The objective was to simulate the shimmy vibration at the nose landing gear and suggest different design modifications to overcome the vibration.

INPUT

Nose landing gear with flexible strut, steering rack with hydraulic forces, main landing gear, rigid fuselage

MODEL

   











RESULT

Simulation results of base model were correlated with test data results. Additional simulations were carried out to predict the effect of adding friction plates, increasing the hydraulic damping at steering rack, etc.

CONCLUSION

Base level simulation results were correlated with test data and suggested design modifications were to be tried on the physical prototype later on.
