Flow analysis of engine inlet manifold

PROJECT

Flow analysis of engine inlet manifold

OBJECTIVE

Analysis of two designs of Inlet manifolds to check for performance, to check for flow and pressure drop across manifold.

INPUT

Fluid properties :-

. Fluid - Air
. Temperature - 25oC
. Mass flow rate - 175 cfm.

Inflow Boundary :-

. Mass flow rate was specified at the inlet boundary.
. The standard k-epsilon model is considering 5% turbulence intensity at the inlet.

MODEL

RESULT

Maximum pressure is 4120 Pa and found to be in the inlet bends. Flow swirl was found in case 'a' manifold that leads to pressure drop and non-uniform distribution of the flow. Results show that Case b is found to be better than Case a in both flow distribution and pressure loss.
